Legacy

Grade 7 students at Douglas Road leave a legacy project to the school each year. New, custom painted backboards will stand on our outdoor courts to signify the spirit instilled in the class of 2016 and given back in their gift to us. Here is some of what they had to say about their Douglas Road experience:

We all have high hopes for down the line, but only we can carry them out. One person wants to be a dentist, and another a scientist. One person wants to go to Harvard, and another to U.B.C. To succeed is our goal, but to deliver is the challenge. Most people feel that they need to be wealthy, but what is actually significant is happiness. A positive attitude towards tomorrow is one of the many things you need for success. There will be many perils to face in the future, but we will be able to overcome them all due to a strong foundation in elementary school. We all would like the future grade 7’s to succeed in whatever field they join in, and be happy. Some advice we would like to give the future grade 7’s to succeed and be happy is join clubs, activities, and groups. The biggest regret that most grade 7’s have is that they didn’t join different types of clubs and weren’t able to try as many things as they would’ve liked to.  If you are too shy to join a club in grade 8, join with your friend.  What if you have no friends?  Just join and you’ll make some friends!  Our greatest words of advice are, “Be who you are. And say what you feel.  Because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.

And a final quote is:

Success is not final.  Failure is not fatal.  It is the courage to continue that counts!

Congratulations to our Douglas Road Class of 2016. Thank you for your legacy and may you continue to soar together.
